Civic Action: A Vision for Long Island City an exhibition at both Noguchi Museum and  Socrates Sculpture Park from 2011 - 2012

Project Team: George Trakas (artist), Lyn Rice (architect), Astrid Lipka(architect), and Amelia Black (researcher)
Civic Action  was a project commissioned by the Noguchi Museum and the Socrates Sculpture Park as a part of the two part exhibition and catalogue exploring the communities in engagement with the neighborhood's waterfront in the Ravenswood neighborhood in Queens, NY.

I supported this project as a creative researcher working under the land artist George Trakas. I conduction original and archival research to tell the story of the waterfront’s evolution, from quarry to high end society establishment with a public facing park and to its industrial identity that it had when the artist’s Mark di Suvero and Isamu Noguchi established their studios in the mid 20th Century.

As the culmination of the project, we worked with the Army Corps of Engineers to construct a waterfront park that invited the public back to the waterfront of Long Island City.
